Squirrel’s Pantry opened in Easter 1998 and is named after the Red Squirrels that visit here to feed, It has been transformed from a tumbledown Victorian greenhouse and potting shed to a light and airy tranquil oasis.
Only yards away from the busy A66, motorists will find it a welcome break from driving.
Location:
On the Lamplugh Road(A5086), at the southern edge of Cockermouth, close to the A66 roundabout.
Everything served in Squirrel's Pantry is made on the premises. You can enjoy a tasty snack at lunchtime or afternoon tea with traditional scones and home made cakes. We serve Ringtons fine quality tea and coffee, served to you in fine china, with traditional waitress service.
Imagine eating a delicious homemade soup from the varied and healthy menu, accompanied by homemade bread, baked in a flowerpot, whilst watching Rusty the red squirrel feed.
Squirrel's Pantry has seating for 30 people, and operates a takeaway service for sandwiches and soup etc. Much of the original building has been left intact, with the potting shed/boiler house becoming the kitchen. Set alongside the wooded drive way into the Oakhurst Garden Centre, it is an ideal location, with good access for the elderly and disabled.
The addition of a patio balcony, overlooking the River Cocker provides an area for outdoor eating where bird watchers can spot nuthatches and tree creepers to name but a few of the 40 varieties of bird spotted in and around the grounds of Oakhurst Garden Centre.
Well behaved dogs are permitted to sit outside with you in the summer.
We are proud of our red squirrels here at Squirrel's Pantry, and we care for and feed them for your enjoyment. Donations made for red squirrel conservation will be used on grey squirrel control in the local area
