Squirrel's Pantry Victorian Tearoom More Recipes Grandmas Date Loaf A old recipe handed down through the family (kindly given by Maureen Kelly) 1 Packet Chopped Dates 1¾ Cups Self Raising Flour ¾ Cups Sugar teaspoon butter ½ Pint Hot Water 1 Teaspoon Bicarb Chop the dates into a bowl, add bicarb. Pour the boiling water over. Stir in all other ingredients, mix well. Turn into a well greased loaf tin and bake for 45-50mins for at 170º
Chocolate Cake ½ lb SR Flour ½ lb Margarine ½ Caster Sugar 4 Eggs 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Blend Cocoa with 3tbspns boiling water, leave to cool. In the food mixer bowl add all the ingredients. Mix Well. Turn into a well greased lined tin and bake for approx 25 mins at 180º Non-fat Tea Bread ¾ Pint Cold Tea 7oz Soft brown Sugar 12 oz Mixed Dried Fruit 10 oz S R Flour 1 Egg Place the tea sugar and fruit in on bowl with the Tea to soak overnight. Mix soaked fruit sugar and liquid into the flour. Add the beaten egg and mix until smooth. turn into a 2lb loaf tin and bake for 1¾ hours at 170º. Serve with butter.
